If the Academic class will leave you with a two-dimensional experience, the New Horizon is no longer a class but a workshop where for the first time you will use both tools and materials.
The great originality about this workshop resides in the technique instructed, the Picassiette.
- Working in Picassiette is rewarding as its processes and design possbilities are a great foundation for producing more intricate traditional Mosaics and take home something that is guaranteed to look good.

- Well, thank you... but what does Picassiette mean? Ta da! Info time!!
1900-1964 French graveyard worker Raymond Isidor left behind him a masterpiece and started a new form of Artistic expression. Baptized by a journalist Pique-assiette, French for "scavenger" later spelled Picassiette, Isidor decorated his entire house by covering all of the walls with broken plates, glass shards and much more.

- Whatever the media covered with china and/or shards of all kinds of material, the resulted art form is of the Picassiette.
More is written about the origin of Picassiette at: http://www.thejoyofshards.co.uk/picassiette/ http://www.rawvision.com/back/picassiette/picass.html

Great! So, What I am going to work with?
First, is what we call the "base": in the context of this workshop it is a
7" 3/4 in diameter round wooden base; simply a coaster (above right).
Shown below are the highlights of what you will learn how to do:
Prepare your media,
select your material,
define the cutting and cut your plate (centers & borders),
use all the tips & secrets unique to this technique,
grind, position and glue your pieces,
grout, clean,
take it home and...say you did it all on your own!

Finally, this workshop is just a simple way to start as everything is supplied: Just register and make sure not to miss the first class!
